- if something is on 'the tip of your tongue', it means there is some information you can't quite remember, but hopefully will soon.
We nearly won the quiz; John had the answer to the last question on the tip of his tongue - but the other team said it first.
The name will come to me soon, it's on the tip of my tongue… ah yes, his name is Paul.
good egg
- good egg means someone is a reliable, trustworthy and generous person.
- bad egg is used to describe someone who is not reliable and untrustworthy.
- If you have egg on your face it means you're extremely embarrassed by your actions.
Thanks for buying me lunch, you really are a good egg!
I think we can trust her, she really is a good egg.
He's a bad egg. I can't rely on him to do anything!
