Hair of the dog
- In English, when we say 'the hair of the dog', we mean a small alcoholic drink which you have to cure a hangover.
The doctor told Jane to take a couple of painkillers and to drink plenty of water. He said that would be much better than the hair of the dog!
My mind's gone blank
- When you say 'my mind's gone blank' it means that suddenly you've completely forgotten what you were about to do or say.
I didn't do well in the job interview. When they asked me why I wanted to work there my mind went blank. I wasn't sure why I'd applied for that particular job at all!
